Disney Announces New 'Star Wars' Film Just 90 Minutes of Luke Skywalker Waving at Camera
LOS ANGELES — Disney executives announced today that in addition to upcoming films focusing on the Mandalorian and Rey characters, there’s also an upcoming Star Wars movie that exclusively features iconic character Luke Skywalker making eye contact with the camera lens and waving to you, the viewer.
“Hello to everybody in the theater,” said Mark Hamill, portraying Skywalker, in a teaser video that was shown at a fan convention earlier today. “I am Luke Skywalker, and I see all of you. I am in the Rebel Alliance, and I am friends with Han Solo. Hi there in the back row. It’s great to see you. I didn’t forget about you folks in the front, either. Please throw away your empty containers when the event is over. Thank you!”
While details about the film are scarce, director Caspar Wells said the preview footage was merely a taste of what to expect in the upcoming An Hour and a Half of Luke Skywalker Waving: A Star Wars Story.
“We have several different Luke Skywalkers in here, which is so exciting,” he said. “We have Mark Hamill in some scenes playing older Luke, we have Uncanny Valley Luke coming back from season two of The Mandalorian, and we even had Andy Serkis do some [motion capture] shit, so there’s a very acrobatic Luke Skywalker in the mix, too.”
“Also, I’m not supposed to tell anyone this,” the director added. “But they recreate the Spider-Man meme. That’s the big finale. How cool is that?”
As of press time, Disney confirmed that Iron Man and Olaf the Snowman would be appearing in the film’s post-credits scene, although it’s unclear if they will be waving to the camera as well.
